hey guys i need your honest take on this because ive been getting into it with the management at my gym lately and its getting annoying

basically i love lifting in my flip flops but the staff is threatening to kick me out if i dont start wearing closed toe shoes. like i totally get that theres a risk of dropping a plate on my foot or whatever and im fine with that- i accept the risk but they still wont drop it

am i actually in the wrong here or is there something else im missing besides the obvious safety stuff?? lay it on me honestly lol cuz i just wanna workout comfortably but they're making it a whole thing

honestly man i hate to say it but you’re probably gonna lose this battle. its almost always an insurance thing for them - if you smash your toe you might say you wont sue but their insurance provider says otherwise. its annoying but pretty standard for big gyms

lmao i mean i love the breeze too but lifting in flip flops is a bold move. i’d be terrified of slipping during squats or something. maybe try some barefoot style shoes or just some cheap vans? they’re flat and way more stable anyway

it sucks but they’re just covering their asses. plus imagine the mess if someone actually did lose a toe... nobody wants to see that during their sets lol. just get some crocs and put them in sport mode man -

yeah youre definitely in the wrong here haha. its not just about you dropping stuff its about hygiene and trip hazards too. most gyms have it in the fine print when you sign up. just grab some beat up chuck taylors and call it a day

i feel u on the comfort thing but i’ve seen a guy drop a 25lb plate on his foot in sneakers and it was still a bloodbath. in flip flops you’d be headed straight to the ER. just wear shoes for the hour youre there and change after!

its funny cuz some of the old school bodybuilding gyms dont care at all but any commercial gym is gonna jump down your throat for that. they dont want the liability. its nothing personal just business stuff -

have you tried those "not-a-shoe" socks with the grips on the bottom? some gyms are cool with those if you hate regular sneakers. but yeah flip flops are usually a hard no everywhere ive been

bro imagine doing heavy deadlifts and your foot slides in a flip flop... sounds like a recipe for a snapped ankle. i’d just listen to them before they actually cancel your membership over something small like that

lol man i hate to say it but you're definitely in the wrong here. it's not even about your own safety really - it's a massive insurance liability for the gym. if you get hurt and sue they're screwed. plus honestly nobody wants to see the dogs barking while they're tryna hit a pr haha just get some cheap vans or something

dude you gotta wear shoes... i love being comfy too but flip flops on a leg press or even just walking around with heavy plates is a recipe for disaster. most gyms have this in the contract u signed when u joined. just grab some barefoot shoes or something if u want that flat ground feel

haha i feel u on the comfort but u cant win this one bro. the staff is just doing their job so they dont get fired. i tried doing deadlifts in socks once and got yelled at within 5 minutes. it's just how it is in commercial gyms- total buzzkill but part of the deal

honestly i think ur missing the hygiene part too... gyms are gross and keeping your feet covered is probably better for you anyway. plus if u drop a 45lb plate on your toes even real shoes wont help much but at least you wont get kicked out. just buy some cheap chucks and call it a day

management is always gonna win that fight man. it sucks but if you really want to lift in flip flops or barefoot you probably gotta find a hardcore "black iron" type gym or just build a home gym. commercial spots are always gonna be strict on the shoe thing- too many lawyers out there lol
