I was wondering if there’s any data on how IGF-1 levels might vary between people of different ethnic backgrounds.
Specifically, do you think an IGF-1 test would show different results for someone of African descent versus someone of Asian descent after they’ve taken an injection? I'm curious if the body processes it differently or if the baseline response tends to change based on genetics.
Has anyone seen any info on this or noticed a difference in labs?
interesting question, i haven’t seen hard stats but genetics definitely affects hormone stuff in general
i’d assume baseline IGF-1 varies a bit between populations, but after an injection id think it mostly depends on dose and individual biology
never dug deep into ethnic differences for IGF specifically, but lots of endocrinology stuff talks about genetic variation in receptors/metabolism
if anyone does have actual papers on this i’d love to see them, sounds like a legit nerd convo lol
from a practical standpoint it seems like individual response is all over the place no matter where someone’s ancestry is from imo
Honestly i've wondered about this too but most of the data shows that african american guys actually tend to have slightly higher baseline igf-1 levels compared to caucasians or east asians. as far as the injection goes- the response usually depends more on your liver health and insulin sensitivity than anything else. definitely check your labs before and after because genetics always play a huge role in how much you actually "absorb"
i saw a study a while back that mentioned black men usually have higher circulating igf-1 levels but lower igf-bp3 which is the binding protein. it's super complicated stuff but i dont think the "processing" of the injection changes that much based on race- it’s more about your individual receptor sensitivity. stick to the bloodwork though cuz that's the only way to know for sure how your body is reacting
man the "normal" range on those lab reports is so broad it almost doesnt matter lol. but yeah there are definitely ethnic differences- like some studies show asian populations can have lower average levels compared to others but it doesnt mean the stuff works any less. if you're pinning 2iu and your labs are jumping then you're good to go regardless of background
i’ve seen guys of all backgrounds post labs and the numbers are all over the place. i think diet and sleep actually move the needle way more than ethnicity does but its an interesting question for sure. i bet if you look at the raw data there's a slight difference in the "ceiling" for igf-1 but the actual growth response is probably pretty similar across the board
stats wise african descent usually tests higher on the baseline but i havent seen anything saying they process the exogenous stuff differently. just make sure you're getting enough carbs in because if your insulin is tanked your igf-1 won't move much anyway. hope that helps bro!
