I could really use some input on how to handle things before I get this hernia looked at. Last night I was doing squats and felt this sharp pain in my lower abdomen, just above and to the right of my junk. It freaked me out enough to stop my workout right then and there. When I checked the area, I noticed a bulge or some tissue that definitely wasn't on the other side. My mind went straight to the worst case scenarios, like cancer or my first hernia. After looking it up, the location perfectly matches an inguinal hernia.

I barely slept a wink last night because of the anxiety, so I hit up urgent care today. The doctor checked me out and said she didn't feel any intestines sticking out. When I asked why it was swollen, she figured the tissue probably just slipped back inside. She mentioned it might never happen again, but she thinks that's unlikely and referred me to a surgeon for a consult.

The weird part is she told me I could keep working out just like I normally do. The wait for the surgeon is going to be about two or three weeks. Honestly, would you guys feel comfortable lifting heavy under these circumstances? My plan for the consult is to make 100% sure it’s actually a hernia, and if it is, I want the surgery. I don't want to live in fear of certain exercises for the rest of my life.

What do you guys think? Should I hold off on the heavy stuff until I see the specialist?

man i would 100% hold off on the heavy squats for now. urgent care docs are great for basic stuff but they aren't surgeons. if you felt a bulge and a sharp pain something definitely happened. just stick to machines or high rep stuff that doesnt put tons of pressure on your core until you see the specialist. better safe than sorry- u dont want a strangulated hernia trust me.

honestly its probably fine to lift but id stay away from anything where u have to brace super hard like squats or deads. maybe just do some curls and light machine work to stay sane? the anxiety of it popping back out mid-set would ruin the workout anyway lol.

dude i had the exact same thing happen last year. felt the "pop" during leg press. my doc said the same thing about keepin on training but i waited for the surgeon just to be sure. ended up being a small tear. the surgery is super easy and youll be back in no time - just take it easy for these 2 weeks man.

2 or 3 weeks isnt gonna kill your gains bro. just take a deload or do some steady state cardio. if u keep pushing it and it gets worse the surgery/recovery is gonna be way more of a headache.

id get a second opinion or just wait for that surgeon. "it might never happen again" sounds like some wishful thinking lol. if there was a bulge there then something is definitely torn or weak in the wall. just chill for a bit and let the specialist do their thing.

man that anxiety is the worst... i didnt sleep for a week when i thought i had one. honestly if i were u id just do some light upper body stuff and stay away from the heavy compound movements. its just not worth the risk of it getting stuck out there.

i literally just had my hernia repair in november. i kept lifting until the surgery but i stopped doing anything that required a heavy valsalva maneuver. just be careful and if u feel any pain at all stop immediately- dont be a hero haha.

thats crazy the doc told u to keep going normally lol. id be terrified of my guts spilling out mid-squat. id say just stick to the bike and some light extensions for legs until the surgeon gives u the green light. hang in there man the wait is the hardest part.
