My doctor is suggesting I start on a statin to help get my cholesterol under control. I'm curious if any of you guys are currently on one? If so, what’s your experience been like - would you actually recommend it?
I started one last year. I did have some muscle aches at first but my doc just switched the dosage and now im totally fine. Definitely worth it for the peace of mind imo
honestly ive been on one for like 2 years now and havent noticed a single side effect. my numbers dropped way faster than i expected so id say go for it. just makes things easier
im on one! it definitely helps but i still gotta watch what i eat lol. i was nervous to start but honestly its been fine. just keep an eye on how you feel the first few weeks
Been on lipitor for years and no issues here. if your doctor thinks you need it id trust them! its better than worrying about your heart all the time
i fought my doctor on this for way too long lol finally gave in and my cholesterol is finally in the normal range. i wish i wouldve just started sooner tbh. good luck!!
just watch out for the muscle aches man. some people get zero issues but for others it feels like you never recovered from leg day lol. if you start getting weird cramps or weakness definitely tell your doc- sometimes just switching brands or lowering the dose fixes it completely.
i’ve been on 10mg of crestor for about a year now and honestly havent noticed a single difference in the gym. my ldl dropped like 40% in the first three months. if you have a family history of heart stuff like i do it’s basically a cheat code for better labs.
if you do start one make sure you’re taking a good coq10 supplement with it!! statins can deplete your natural levels which is usually why guys get those muscle pains. 200mg a day of ubiquinol made a huge difference for me when i first started mine.
i tried lipitor for like two weeks and had to stop- the brain fog was real for me. felt like i was walking through mud all day. i ended up just getting way stricter with my diet and adding a ton of fiber and that actually got me back into the green. worth a shot before committing to meds for life?
welcome to getting older i guess lol. i resisted for so long because i didnt want to be "that guy" on heart meds but my bloodwork looks better now than it did in my 20s. just take it at night so you sleep through any potential stomach weirdness.
did your doc look at your hdl and triglycerides too? sometimes they just see a high total number and freak out. if your "good" cholesterol is high and your trigs are low you might not even need one. maybe get a second opinion or ask for a calcium scan first just to see if there's actually any plaque build up.
honestly i’d recommend it if your numbers are really stubborn. i tried "natural" for years and could never get my ldl below 130. one tiny pill a day and now im at 70. it’s way less stress than worrying about a heart attack at 50.
