so i keep seeing that like one or two 6 month runs of accutane can basically cure acne for good in a lot of people but i’m wondering if thats actually true for the steroid induced stuff. has anyone here actually had it work permanently even while still blasting or do the breakouts just come right back once you stop?
im kinda skeptical that it would be a "permanent cure" if the hormones are what's causing it in the first place but idk if i should give it a shot. the side effects sound pretty nasty compared to something like doxycycline which works great for me with zero sides but then the acne just pops back up the second i stop taking it. is it worth the risk or am i just chasing a dream here lol
honestly if your still blasting it's probably not gonna be a "permanent" fix. accutane works by shrinking your oil glands but as long as your pumping your body with extra hormones those glands are gonna want to flare back up eventually. i did a full course and it stayed clear for like a year but as soon as i hopped back on a heavy cycle it started creeping back in.
the side effects are definitely no joke man... the dry lips and joint pain made my squats feel like death lol. doxy is way easier on the body but like you said it's just a bandaid. if your acne is really cystic and scarring though accutane is pretty much the only thing that actually kills it off for a long time.
i managed to get a "permanent" clear but i have to run a super low dose like 10-20mg a week even when im off the main course. its basically the only way i can stay clear while on gear. maybe talk to your doc about a low dose long term protocol instead of a massive 6 month blast?
it definitely isn't a cure-all if your still using. think about it - your fighting your own biology at that point. i've seen some guys get lucky and stay clear forever but most of us gear users just end up having to do "maintenance" doses every now and then to keep the skin from blowing up again.
man stay away from it if you can help it lol the mental side effects and the dry skin were a nightmare for me. i'd stick to the doxy and maybe try some topical stuff like tretinoin first. accutane is like the nuclear option and it doesnt always guarantee a lifetime of clear skin if your still blasting test and other stuff.
it worked for me! i did one hard 6 month run and even on my heavy cycles now i only get a tiny spot here or there. it basically changed my skin type from super oily to normal. it's a rough 6 months though so you gotta decide if the chapped lips and nosebleeds are worth the trade off lol.
