So, my understanding is that the bulk of the weight loss people get from something like Retatrutide comes down to appetite suppression—mostly driven by the GLP-1 action, similar to how Sema or Tirz work.
But if we're talking about actual "fat burning" or lipolysis, that's really more about the Glucagon (GCGR) side of things, combined with the improved insulin sensitivity you get from GIP. It makes me wonder why we aren't seeing compounds that just target GCGR and GIP together without the GLP-1 component.
Wouldn't that be a massive game-changer for "us" as a long-term fat burner? I'm imagining something with way fewer side effects than harsh stuff like Clen, almost mimicking the fat-loss profile you get from Growth Hormone.
Is the issue just that it’s only useful for people like us, and it wouldn't move the needle enough for the general obese population to make it profitable? Or am I totally missing some biological reason why this combo doesn't exist?
I’ve wondered the same thing tbh - seems like appetite control is doing most of the heavy lifting for people
A GH-like fat loss drug without the sides would be insane tho 😅 sign me up immediately
I feel like GLP‑1 is doing the heavy lifting because appetite control is what most people actually need. Pure “fat burning” without eating less probably wouldn’t move the scale much for the average person
if something burned fat hard without killing appetite it would probably get abused like crazy… regulators would lose their minds 😂
from what I’ve read pure glucagon action alone can jack blood sugar way up and make you feel like trash, so the GLP side kinda “balances” it out. a straight GCGR + GIP thing might burn fat but could also have people feeling shaky hungry and wired all at once 😅
Spot on, man. The industry is obsessed with GLP-1 because it’s a "shut up and stop eating" button for the masses, which is where the billion-dollar profits are. But for us, the appetite suppression is almost a downside when you're trying to hit macros and not lose all your lean mass. A pure GIP/Glucagon combo would be the ultimate holy grail for a recomp or a slow burn without that "zombie" feeling you get from Sema.
From what I’ve read the glucagon side alone can jack blood sugar and make you feel kinda awful, so without the GLP part to keep appetite and glucose in check it might be a rough ride. Kinda seems like the “magic” of reta is that push pull balance rather than any single piece doing all the work. Would be cool if they could bottle just the fat burning without the nausea tho 😅
from what I’ve read pure glucagon activity alone can jack blood sugar way up and make you feel like garbage, so the GLP part kinda keeps things balanced. without the appetite suppression most people would just eat the burned calories back too 😅 cool idea on paper but biology is annoying like that
