I'm an 18-year-old natty and I've basically been dealing with depression and anxiety my entire life. Recently, I tried using propranolol, but it just made me way too tired to function at school. I've experimented with 5mg and 10mg doses already, and I'm going to give 2.5mg a shot to see if I can handle it better- if that doesn't work, I'm probably just going to toss it. I also tried memantine, which actually worked really well, but it's not something I'd want to be taking every single day.
I've been researching some other options like selank, agomelatine, and Wellbutrin since they seem to be pretty well-tolerated. I wanted to check in here and see if anyone has any personal experience with those?
I decided to post this in a steroid community because I know you guys often deal with mental side effects that are pretty similar to what I’m going through, so I figured you might have some good insight on the best supplements or meds to help level things out.
respect for experimenting carefully at your age- sounds like you’re really paying attention to how your body reacts
propranolol can hit hard on energy, even at tiny doses, so don’t beat yourself up for that
memantine working for you is interesting, but yeah not something you wanna rely on long term
I’ve heard selank is pretty gentle for anxiety/depression vibes, might be worth looking into
Wellbutrin can help a lot with energy too, but it’s definitely something to discuss with a doc first
i feel you on propranolol, even small doses made me feel like a zombie in class. 2.5mg might help, but honestly sometimes it’s just not the right drug for you
memantine working well doesn’t surprise me, it’s weirdly calming without the crash of other stuff. totally get why daily use isn’t appealing
selank is something i’ve read good things about for anxiety without sedation, but i’ve never tried it personally. seems low risk though
agomelatine might be worth looking into if sleep and mood are both issues, a lot of people say it helps without making them groggy
wellbutrin can be hit or miss, but a lot of folks get energy + mood boost from it. just gotta watch for anxiety spikes at first since it’s stimulating for some
