for some context i'm normally testing around the 90s range but lately my numbers have been way higher than they should be. ive been sick for a bit so i havent really been getting much exercise in at all but i just slept for like 12 hours and didn't eat for another 5 after waking up - so basically a 17 hour fast - and i still tested at 106 mg/dl. another time i tested and woke up at 116 despite having a zero carb dinner at 8 then going to bed around 11. i honestly have no clue whats going on but over this past month there all just way higher than normal
yeah that would freak me out too tbh but being sick can mess with blood sugar way more than people think. your body dumps stress hormones and it’ll push glucose up even if you’re fasting or eating clean. lack of activity doesn’t help either. also sleep timing and poor sleep quality can spike it even if you were out for 12 hours. id watch it once you’re fully better and back to normal routine, if it’s still sitting that high then maybe dig deeper but right now it doesn’t sound super crazy given the context
That sounds incredibly frustrating, but honestly, being sick throws your body into total chaos. When you're fighting an infection or even just a nasty cold, your body pumps out stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline to help fight back. The problem is those hormones also tell your liver to dump extra glucose into your blood for energy, which is why your numbers are staying high even when you aren't eating a single carb.
that 116 in the morning after a zero carb dinner is almost definitely the dawn phenomenon or your liver just dumping glucose because you fasted for so long. being sick is probably the biggest culprit though since your body is under stress and pumping out cortisol like crazy which just wrecks your blood sugar levels even if you arent eating anything. it is super annoying when you do everything right and the numbers still look like trash but i would bet once you are fully recovered and back in the gym they will settle back down into the 90s. just try not to stress too much about it right now because the stress itself will just keep those numbers pinned high!
yeah being sick alone can mess with fasting glucose way more than people think. stress hormones go up, sleep gets weird, activity drops, all that stuff pushes numbers up even if you’re not eating carbs. i’ve had mornings in the 110s just from crap sleep and feeling run down.
being sick can absolutely jack your fasting numbers way more than people realize dude. stress hormones cortisol crappy sleep inflammation all that nonsense can push glucose up even when youre barely eating and doing everything “right.” i’ve had mornings where i ate like a saint and still woke up looking prediabetic just because my body was fighting something off. definitely watch the trend but one rough month while sick doesnt always mean youre suddenly broken. sometimes your body is just being an annoying little science experiment until things calm down.
