I was wondering if taking 25-50mg of eplerenone daily is actually safe. Does anyone know if there are long-term risks, or if it might cause any adverse effects on the kidneys or anything like that?
I just want to make sure I'm not doing any damage by staying on it consistently. If anyone has experience with daily use, let me know!
honestly eplerenone is usually pretty chill compared to some of the older stuff like spiro. 25-50mg is a standard dose but u really gotta watch your potassium levels. if they get too high it can get sketchy for your heart
ive been on 25mg for a while now for blood pressure and havent noticed anything weird with my kidneys. just make sure u get bloodwork done every few months to stay safe.
my doc put me on it and told me to avoid too many bananas and salt substitutes lol. the main risk is just that potassium buildup. other than that its pretty well tolerated
its a good choice if u want to avoid the gyno sides from spiro. as long as your kidneys are healthy now u should be fine but dont skip the labs!
checking your gfr and creatinine is the best way to know if your kidneys are liking it. 50mg isnt a crazy dose or anything but everyone reacts differently.
been using it daily for about a year. no issues here but i stay on top of my hydration. if u feel any weird muscle weakness definitely get checked out.
It’s actually considered one of the “gentler” diuretics from what I’ve heard, but yeah bloodwork now and then is a smart move
I tried it for BP and water retention - worked well, just had to drink enough fluids or I’d feel kinda drained
If you’re healthy and monitoring things, it’s usually not a big deal, but I wouldn’t run it blind for years without checking in with a doc
Most long‑term users I know do fine on it, but mixing with other stuff that raises potassium can be sketchy
Been on 50mg daily for months and the only thing my doc cared about was potassium levels. As long as labs stayed good, he wasn’t worried
