hey everyone just like the title says im trying to find out how long it actually takes for your thyroid function to get back to normal after you stop taking t3.

im really looking for some actual data or bloodwork results if you guys have them - or even a study if anyone has a link handy. i'd much rather see the hard numbers than just hearing about how someone "feels" you know?

im thinking about throwing some t3 into my current cut since i have this big event coming up in june but im definitely worried about the rebound. i want to keep the fat off and not just bloat back up the second i stop taking it so if anyone knows the typical recovery timeline id really appreciate the help!

I did bloods about 6 weeks after stopping and my TSH was still kinda off but improving. By ~10 weeks it looked normal again

mine took about a month to look normal on labs after stopping, TSH was kinda sluggish at first then crept back up. didn’t rebound super hard but appetite went nuts for a bit so I had to watch that more than anything 😅

From my labs it took a few weeks for TSH to crawl back up and T3/T4 to normalize, not overnight at all. I felt kinda flat and sluggish during that window even though weight stayed stable. Biggest rebound issues seemed to come from people slamming calories back up, not just the thyroid lag itself. Slow reverse diet helped me way more than anything fancy.

My bloods were still a bit suppressed at the 2 week mark and pretty much back in range around 4 to 6 weeks. Energy lagged behind the numbers though, felt kinda sluggish even after labs looked “normal.” Biggest thing that saved me from rebound was not panicking and overeating right after stopping.

The good news is the thyroid is actually way more resilient than your HPTA. Most clinical studies on T3 (liothyronine) show that even after being suppressed, your natural TSH and T3 levels usually bounce back to your baseline within 2 to 3 weeks. There was a famous study back in the 70s where they put people on massive doses for years, and even they recovered their full function in about 15-30 days once they hopped off.
