Hey guys,

I’ve been using Retatrutide since August and I'm down about 20 pounds so far, which is great. But for the last month or so, I’ve been dealing with these crazy hiccup fits. They literally last for hours at a time.

I’ve noticed that keeping my meal sizes smaller helps a little bit, but it’s definitely not a total fix. Sometimes they just happen anyway. Along with the hiccups, I’m also getting some mild heartburn every now and then.

I was up at 6 mg a week for a while, but since I’m getting pretty close to my goal weight, I’ve actually tapered back down to 3.6 mg.

Has anyone else run into this while on Reta? If you have, did you find anything that actually makes them stop?

man the reta hiccups are absolutely no joke!! i had them so bad last week i could barely finish a sentence without sounding like a broken toy lol. small meals help like you said but honestly sleeping slightly propped up was the only thing that kept the heartburn and hiccups away for me. congrats on being so close to your goal though 20lbs is huge!

honestly i thought i was the only one going through this haha. i get them literally every time i move up in dose. it feels like my stomach just forgets how to work for a few hours. try some ginger tea or even just those chewable gas-x tabs they weirdly helped me way more than actual heartburn meds did.

dude the reta hiccups are the worst part of this whole journey lol. i’ve noticed if i drink water too fast it triggers a fit that lasts all night. glad to hear you are tapering down though maybe they will finally chill out once you are on a maintenance dose. hang in there!

yup welcome to the club! small meals are definitely the way to go but sometimes i swear even a glass of water sets them off. i usually just pop a tums and pray they go away before i have to jump on a work call lol. congrats on the weight loss though that's a solid win regardless of the annoying side effects.

it is crazy how common this is but nobody really talks about it when you first start. the heartburn is definitely what does it for me so i started taking a daily pepcid and it cut the hiccups down by like 50 percent. maybe give that a shot since you are already on a lower dose now?

wow 20 pounds down is awesome! sucks about the hiccups though. i had them on tirz but they got way more intense when i switched to reta. i found that if i eat too late at night it makes the hiccups and heartburn way worse the next morning. keep at it man you are almost there!

man the reta hiccups are the absolute worst. i had them on tirzepatide too but reta seems to make the reflux way weirder. it’s usually because of the delayed gastric emptying... your stomach is basically just "full" for way longer than usual. try some gas-x or a strong antacid right before you eat, that helped me a ton

lol 20 lbs down is awesome but hours of hiccups sounds like a nightmare. have u tried sleeping slightly propped up? sometimes the heartburn and hiccups go hand in hand because of the slow digestion. also maybe try breaking your meals into like 5 tiny snacks instead of 2-3 bigger ones.

honestly i had to drop my dose even lower than 3.6 to get them to stop. it’s like once your body hits a certain threshold with the glp/glucagon stuff everything just spasms. also watch out for carbonated drinks... i had one sparkling water and hiccuped for 4 hours straight lol.

definitely the heartburn causing it. the acid irritates the phrenic nerve and then boom- non-stop hiccups. i started taking a daily omeprazole (prilosec) while on my reta cycle and it cleared it right up. talk to your doc about a ppi maybe?

20 lbs is solid progress though! i’m on 4mg right now and luckily havent got the hiccups yet but the nausea is real. my buddy got the hiccups bad and he swears by drinking ice cold water through a straw. sounds stupid but hey if it works it works
