hey so i keep seeing people pinning test into there glutes but doing it subq like on the upper outer part by the hip bone and im just wondering whats the actual point of doing it that way. usually people just do oil injections IM with delts being the most popular spot by far so i dont really get the hype. i kinda want to give subq a shot just to see how it feels and if it makes a difference but i wonder if a 29g needle is big enough for the glute area or if thats a bad idea? any insight on this would be a huge help for me or anyone else reading this thread thanks

honestly the main point of subq is more stable blood levels. since the oil absorbs slower through the fat you don't get those crazy peaks and valleys like you do with IM. it’s a total game changer if you’re prone to acne or mood swings from the hormone spikes

i use 29g for subq in the glutes all the time and it works fine but it takes a bit of a push. if you’re lean enough it’s basically painless. the only thing that sucks is if you get a "lump" under the skin that stays for a week but that usually goes away once your body gets used to it

29g is totally fine for the glute area as long as you’re not trying to push 2ml at once. if your dose is small it’s easy. just go slow and make sure you’re actually hitting the fat layer and not just going halfway into the muscle cuz that can sting a bit

i switched from delts to subq glutes/hips and i’m never going back. zero scar tissue buildup in the muscle which is the biggest win for me. plus you can just do it while watching tv lol so much more chill than stabbing a 1 inch needle into your shoulder

the "hype" is mostly about keeping estrogen in check. for some reason subq seems to result in less aromatization for a lot of guys. i noticed my e2 dropped a few points on my last bloodwork just by switching from IM to subq- same dose and everything

watch out for the "oil leak" lol. sometimes if you don't pin deep enough into the fat a little bit of oil can leak back out. just hold the needle in for like 10 seconds after you're done pushing and it usually stays put. 29g is the way to go though for sure

i tried subq for a month and hated the little itchy bumps it gave me. i went back to shallow IM with a 27g half inch in the delts. subq is definitely popular right now but it’s not for everyone- worth a shot though just to see how your body reacts

lol "upper outer part by the hip" is basically the ventroglute. its actually a super safe spot because there aren't many nerves there. if you use a 29g 1/2 inch needle there it’s probably hitting a mix of fat and muscle anyway... "sub-muscular" or whatever they call it. super easy spot to reach too

the main reason people love subq is honestly just the convenience and less scar tissue over time. if you're pinning for the rest of your life those big IM needles add up lol. a 29g is totally fine for the glute area but just a heads up that it takes forever to push the oil through- you gotta be patient or your thumb is gonna get a workout.

i switched to subq in the glute/hip area a few months ago and my blood levels actually stayed way more stable. i don't get those "roid rage" peaks or the mid-week crashes anymore. 29g works but if you're using a thicker oil like castor you might want to step up to a 27g just so you aren't standing there for two minutes per pin.

honestly the "hype" is just because it hurts way less. i used to get such bad PIP in my delts that i couldn't even lift my arms for a day or two. with subq in the fat around the glute i literally don't feel a thing. just make sure you don't go too deep or you'll end up doing a shallow IM which is fine too i guess.

if you have a bit of a "cushion" on your hips then a half inch 29g might not actually reach the muscle which is the whole point of subq. its a bit weird at first seeing a little lump under your skin for a day but it goes away. i'd say give it a shot and see if you like the feel better than delts- i never went back.
