My blood pressure used to sit around 149/89 on average, but over the last few months I've managed to get it down to about 134/80. I did that mostly by staying consistent with cardio and really cutting back on my salt intake.

My doctor wants to put me on a beta blocker now, but I’ve noticed that a lot of people in this community seem to prefer Telmisartan. I’m wondering if it's worth bringing that up as an alternative during my next appointment.

The main thing is that I’m planning to start my first cycle in a few months, so I want to be 100% sure my BP is under control before I add anything else to the mix. Has anyone here tried both, or is there a reason Telmisartan is the "go-to" over something like a beta blocker?

honestly telmisartan is the gold standard for a reason. it doesn't mess with your heart rate like beta blockers do which is huge if you're trying to crush it in the gym. plus it has some weirdly cool benefits for insulin sensitivity too. definitely ask your doc about it

props on getting it down that much just with cardio and diet man. 134/80 is so much better than where you were. i’d stay away from beta blockers if you can help it- they make me feel like i’m moving through molasses during my workouts lol

telmi is definitely the "gear-friendly" choice. a lot of guys run it because it helps with left ventricular hypertrophy which is a big concern once you start cycling. beta blockers are more for heart rate stuff usually. just my 2 cents

i’ve tried both and telmisartan wins every time. beta blockers gave me the worst fatigue and i couldn't get my heart rate up enough to even get a good pump. if you're planning a cycle soon you want something that wont kill your performance before you even start

definitely bring up the telmi to your doc. just tell him you read about the kidney protective benefits- doctors usually like that logic. 134/80 is still a bit high for starting a cycle though so getting it into the 120s before you pin anything is a smart move bro

beta blockers for a first cycle? nahhh. you’ll be yawning halfway through your sets. telmisartan is way more chill on the side effects. just watch out if you're already doing a lot of cardio cuz it can make you a bit dizzy if you stand up too fast sometimes

Definitely bring up Telmisartan with your doc. Beta blockers can sometimes mess with your heart rate during workouts and make you feel "sluggish" or like you can't hit your top gear in the gym. Telmisartan is the go-to because it's way more "athlete friendly" and actually helps with insulin sensitivity too which is a nice bonus when you're on cycle.

Huge props on getting it down from 149/89 just with cardio and salt- that's a massive win man. Most guys just pop a pill and call it a day. The reason people like Telmi over beta blockers is that it doesn't mask your heart rate as much. You want to know if your heart is racing while you're blasting, not have a drug hiding it.

Smart move getting the BP sorted before the cycle. Once you add the gear, that 134/80 is probably gonna creep back up, so having a solid med in place is key. Most guys avoid beta blockers because they can sometimes mess with your "performance" in the bedroom too lol. Telmisartan doesn't usually have those kinds of sides.

I've tried both and beta blockers made me feel like i was walking through mud. Switching to an ARB like Telmisartan was a game changer for my energy levels. Plus it's known for helping protect the kidneys which is something you definitely want to think about once you start your first cycle.

Beta blockers are usually more for heart rate issues, whereas Telmisartan is specifically for the pressure in your pipes. Since yours was 149/89, Telmi is probably a better fit for the actual BP control. Just tell your doctor you've done some research on ARBs and see what he says- most are cool with it if you have a good reason.
